HTL Secondary Glazing Specification
HTL manufactures and installs secondary glazing in our factory using its own profiles.
Effectively fitted secondary glazing units on the inside of any reasonably air tight outer windows will result in a considerable increase in the thermal performance of your building.
In addition there will be a significant improvement in the amount of sound insulation. However this depends on the gap between the glass in the outer window and that of the secondary. It is very important that an airtight fitting is achieved if thermal and sound insulation are required.
Specs
Materials
All secondary units are manufactured from extruded aluminium sections, and comply with BS1474 1987. Extrusions are bought in mill finish, and can be powder coated to any standard RAL colour as per BS6496.
Construction
The profiles forming the outer frame and glazed panels are generally mitre cut and secured together with self-tapping screws.
Curtain Walling
Units are dry glazed with SGA glazing gaskets providing a drive fit in recesses on the aluminium profile, which assembles around the glass. All glass used conforms to BS6262 for thickness and type (dependent on application).
Weather-stripping
In order to improve the performance of the units, all operating surfaces will be sealed to control airflow. Horizontal sliding units use wool pile and sponge seal. Vertical sliding units use wool pile and extruded PVC on sashes and EPDM pressure seal on outer frame.
Fitting
The horizontal sliding windows are fitted with SGA rollers, which give a beautiful smooth and noiseless action. Vertical sliding panels are hung on adjustable spring balances and held closed with Fitch catches. Where a controlled opening is required for top or bottom hinged unit a telescopic friction arm is available.
Hinged and lift out units are held in place by spring/retaining clips, magnetic catches and/or turn buttons.
